Abstract (down) Correlates reduced social networks, depression, physical disability, and functional dependence with loneliness in long-term care facilities in NZ. Uses a correlational research design and a convenience sample of 36 older peopl,e with a mean age of 81, from four long-term care facilities in a metropolitan city, to assess functional independence, perceived health and well-being, depression, and levels of loneliness. Suggests that nurses working in such settings should consider and assess loneliness in their care plans for older people.

Abstract (down) Conducts an exploratory study to understand nurses' use of technology during the COVID-19 lockdown, in particular which information and communication technologies (ICT) were being used and how nurses felt about using ICT in their practice. Selects an anonymous online survey, with both open- and closed-ended questions, as a safe data-collection method during level 3 lockdown (from March to May 2020), via social media and email networks. Analyses 220 responses from nurses regarding access issues with ICT, with technical support, connectivity, and with patients and colleagues.

Abstract (down) Argues that undergraduate nurse education contributes to the problem of too few nurses choosing to work in aged care, by constructing working in aged care as a lower-status or less valuable area of work than other health-care areas. Examines the issue using Foucauldian discourse analysis to explore the dominant discourses being deployed in relation to clinical experience in aged care. Collects data through semi-structured interviews with 10 senior academic staff members from NZ tertiary institutions. Analyses interview data to reveal how a 'nurse education discourse' and a 'work-ready discourse' were shaping perceptions of aged care as a clinical experience in a variety of ways. Suggests that how and why aged care is utilised as a space to learn a range of nursing skills has the unintended effect of devaluing and discouraging employment in aged care settings.

Distributes a cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire to course coordinators between 2019 and 2020, revealing variations in how FOC is taught and the lack of standardisation in course design.
