Reports research that explores the experience of raising a child with severe allergies in NZ and the potential for an anaphylactic reaction. Utilises an auto-ethnographic research approach to provide details of managing the diagnosis and day to day life of a child with severe allergies through narratives written from the perspective of the child's mother who is also a nurse. Undertakes a thematic analysis of the auto-ethnographic narrative, producing four emergent themes: being the mother; being a nurse; who is supporting us?; and desperately seeking knowledge. |

Draws upon literature pertaining to gender and nursing, and interviews with 18 NZ men, to describe the factors underpinning decisions to turn away from 'malestream' occupations and enter a profession stereotyped as 'women's work'. Reports on a local multi-component initiative to improve local Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage among Maori male students aged 13-17 years in a rural location in Aotearoa New Zealand. Backgrounds the initiative co-designed by the rural health nurse from a community clinic of the Hauora (Maori health provider) and the principal of the local area school, in order to improve health literacy and provide an environment to support student consent to vaccination. Undertakes an evaluation of the initiative in 2018, comprising 10 key informant interviews and a group discussion with eight male students. Identifies the factors associated with the success of the initiative. |

Reports a study exploring family experiences of stroke during the first six months following a stroke. Performs a hermeneutic phenomenological study in which four participants from two Auckland families are interviewed in 2011 and 2012, at three time-intervals within the first six months post-stroke. Identifies three themes of the families' experiences: loss of a life once lived; navigation of an unfamiliar path; re-creation of a sense of normality. Stresses the importance of contact with the health-care team in facilitating the transition to post-stroke life. |

working in managed isolation and quarantine facilities (MIQFs)in Aotearoa New Zealand. Conducts 14 semi-structured interviews, via Zoom, with registered nurses working in MIQFs, focusing on the personal and social impacts on the nurses. Identifies four themes: protecting the community while being a risk to the community; social stigma; families and social connections; being part of, but apart from, other health professionals. Underlines the importance for employers, colleagues, and the wider community of supporting nurses during a pandemic. |
