Reports the findings from research designed to investigate the role of the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and how it is defined by New Zealand District Health Boards (DHBs). Identifies the current requirements and expectations of the CNS role and how it is defined in practice. Collects 15 CNS job descriptions from 8 DHBs, subjecting them to thematic analysis yielding 4 key areas of the CNS role. |

Abstract |
Reports research that explores the experience of raising a child with severe allergies in NZ and the potential for an anaphylactic reaction. Utilises an auto-ethnographic research approach to provide details of managing the diagnosis and day to day life of a child with severe allergies through narratives written from the perspective of the child's mother who is also a nurse. Undertakes a thematic analysis of the auto-ethnographic narrative, producing four emergent themes: being the mother; being a nurse; who is supporting us?; and desperately seeking knowledge. |

Reports on one aspect of a larger study, which used qualitative methods to critically explore the social construction of men as nurses. Draws upon literature pertaining to gender and nursing, and interviews with 18 NZ men, to describe the factors underpinning decisions to turn away from 'malestream' occupations and enter a profession stereotyped as 'women's work'. Outlines the five thematic groupings revealed to be significant with respect to the decision-making process. |

Abstract |
Reports on a local multi-component initiative to improve local Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage among Maori male students aged 13-17 years in a rural location in Aotearoa New Zealand. Backgrounds the initiative co-designed by the rural health nurse from a community clinic of the Hauora (Maori health provider) and the principal of the local area school, in order to improve health literacy and provide an environment to support student consent to vaccination. Undertakes an evaluation of the initiative in 2018, comprising 10 key informant interviews and a group discussion with eight male students. Identifies the factors associated with the success of the initiative. |

Reports on a collaborative project that explores trans-disciplinary understanding of the implications of learning English for the health and well-being of refugees. Argues that English literacy is a significant factor in health literacy and access to health care. Uses secondary analysis to analyse primary research with 60 predominantly female adult refugees aged 18 to 64 years. Highlights the experiences of these English language learners and reflects on their relevance for primary health care and nursing practice. |

Reports a study exploring family experiences of stroke during the first six months following a stroke. Performs a hermeneutic phenomenological study in which four participants from two Auckland families are interviewed in 2011 and 2012, at three time-intervals within the first six months post-stroke. Identifies three themes of the families' experiences: loss of a life once lived; navigation of an unfamiliar path; re-creation of a sense of normality. Stresses the importance of contact with the health-care team in facilitating the transition to post-stroke life. |

Reports a qualitative, single-centre descriptive study of the experiences of nurses
working in managed isolation and quarantine facilities (MIQFs)in Aotearoa New Zealand. Conducts 14 semi-structured interviews, via Zoom, with registered nurses working in MIQFs, focusing on the personal and social impacts on the nurses. Identifies four themes: protecting the community while being a risk to the community; social stigma; families and social connections; being part of, but apart from, other health professionals. Underlines the importance for employers, colleagues, and the wider community of supporting nurses during a pandemic. |
