Abstract  |
Examines levels of reported violence and aggression within a tertiary-level emergency department (ED) in NZ. Explores staff attitudes to violence and the reporting of it. Conducts a one-month intensive prospective audit of the reporting of violence and aggression within the ED. Compares results with previously-reported data, and finds that failure to report acts of violence is common. Highlights that emergency nurses are the primary targets of abuse and confirms the effect it has on retention. |

Examines nurses' attitudes to activities that promote career progression as well as training and education. Identifies demographic characteristics of nurses who are, respectively, most and least positive about career progression and training/education. Analyses existing data from the NZNO Employment Survey 2015, using quantitative methods to describe and compare responses with those from nurses registered with the Nursing Council of NZ. Investigates the relationship between nurses' attitudes about career progression and training/education and their experiences of participation in some of those activities. |

Offers a web-based survey to nursing students at 23 nursing schools providing undergraduate nursing education in NZ. Conducts descriptive statistical analysis and compares groups based on age, year of study and ethnicity, using 2-sample t-tests. Describes the responses regarding service availability, health-promoting aspects of each campus, and confidence in provision of health advice. |

Invites nurses who had undertaken a Competency Assessment Programme at a given tertiary institution during 2005 to participate. Examines the experiences of parents and nurses in caring for a child following invasive Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis (SUFE) repair. Conducts semi-structured interviews with parents of five children, predominantly Māori or Pacific, who underwent SUFE repair, and five paediatric nurses caring for the children and their families in the hospital ward. Offers two perspectives of the journey for these parents following such an injury, from the child's hospitalisation to caring for these children once they are home. Presents and contrasts these perspectives, revealing insights into the parents' ongoing need for support, information and planning for care, and nurses' efforts to meet these needs. Presents implications for nursing practice. |

Conducts a qualitative, instrumental, multi-case study informed by the Chronic Illness Trajectory Framework. Argues that identifying the sub-phases of a prolonged critical illness trajectory allows targeted interventions for each sub-phase. |

Abstract |
Examines the lived experiences of adults with myasthenia gravis(MG). Uses an interpretive phenomenological approach applying the research methodology of van Manen (1990). Interviews seven people living with MG and records their experiences of the disease. Poses broadly-worded questions about various topics related to MG, that include diagnosis, symptoms, treatments and coping strategies, guided by individual experiences. Reveals by means of thematic analysis that MG affects every aspect of a person?s ?lifeworld?: their sense of time, body, and space and their relationships with others. Highlights three main themes embedded in the data experienced by a person with MG: living with uncertainty, living with weakness and living with change. |
