Abstract: Describes the uptake of postgraduate education, the intent to travel and employment characteristics of NZ registered nurses in their fourth year of practice following registration. Aims to support retention strategies and expand extended career pathways by acknowledging the preferences and pathways selected by early career registered nurses. Analyses responses from 138 registered nurses using data from the longitudinal Graduate e-cohort Study for nurses graduating in the years 2008-2011. Reports summary statistics in percentages/counts along with tests of proportions using the Pearson's chi square test.

Abstract: Conducts an exploratory study to assess whether nurses at a regional base hospital have sufficient theoretical knowledge to assess and manage delirium in the clinical setting. Uses a self-administered survey based on a true/false questionnaire, and a Likert scale to assess nurses' perceived levels of confidence in detecting and managing the delirious patient. Administers the questionnaire to 130 nurses from acute adult wards.

Abstract: Considers whether the Canterbury Dedicated Education Unit model of clinical teaching and learning can support graduate registered nurses in their first year of practice. Uses a descriptive exploratory case-study approach to gather data via three focus groups with a total of eleven participants. Undertakes thematic analysis to identify patterned meaning across the dataset from which two primary themes emerge: support, and recruitment and retention. Identifies five associated sub-themes: peer support, organisational support, liaison nurse support, team support for the graduate registered nurses, and team support for the staff. Reveals the significant contribution made by the Nurse Entry-to-Practice Programme Liaison Nurse as a conflict broker.

Abstract: Investigates the logistics and acceptability of an electronic medication dispenser (EMD) within a home-based medication management service as a substitute for face-to-face home visiting, as a means of reminding elderly clients to take their medication on time. Uses a qualitative usability study methodology to conduct the study, centred on a small group of clients receiving the service from a small group of clients receiving the service from a community nursing organisation in Christchurch. Involves patients, pharmacists, nurses and managers of the community nursing service. Identifies critical processes and protocols required to safely support a wider roll-out of the product within the service.

Abstract: Reviews literature relating to the experience of international tertiary students, particularly Chinese students, undertaking nursing education. Reports that international students cite poorer mental and physical health outcomes than domestic students, and that students with English as an additional language (EAL) experience culture shock, frustration and stress. Suggests that tertiary institutions need to supply targeted interventions for international students in language and cultural adaptation to promote positive acculturation.

Due to lack of participation in the quantitative arm a mixed-method study was not completed using an anonymous survey. Undertakes thematic data analysis utilising NVIVO 10 software. Draws four major themes from the qualitative data: (1) Feedback- insight loop, (2) Process clarity, (3) Relationships, commitment & reflective response to participation in the SIP/PIP process, (4) Barriers and enablers to the SIP/PIP process.

Abstract: Performs a feasibility study in which eight experienced ED nurses attempted to provide Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) to as many of their patients as possible over a one-month period, using the ASSIST-Lite screening tool. Audits the patients' charts to see how many received the SBI. Uncovers an inverse correlation between the number of patients presenting to the ED and the number of screenings undertaken by the nurses, who were given semi-structured interviews. Details three themes: the nurses attitudes towards SBI, their working conditions, and the ED environment.
