Employs the life-world hermeneutic phenomenology of Van Manen to examine perspectives on person-centred care in residential homes in both NZ and Singapore. Conducts interviews with 30 residents, 10 family members and 10 caregivers at 2 residential facilities. Records the interviews and analyses data using Van Manen's 6-step research process. |

Abstract |
Surveys nurses at two hospitals during April and May of 2012. Uses bivariate correlations, group comparisons, analysis of variance and multiple regression to analyse the results. Notes that nurses were still experiencing negative emotional effects of the earthquakes and aftershocks of the preceding 18 months. Finds empathy levels and burnout levels were lower than the normative mean, and that empathy and burnout were negatively correlated with age and experience. |

Abstract |
Explores the rationale underpinning the development of education programmes within urban district hospitals throughout the country, and ascertains how these workplaces develop education programmes, given that the majority of nurses in New Zealand have identified that they prefer to participate in workplace-based professional development. Cites a clear requirement to foster learning during a nurse's development post-registration, while considering how prepared nurse educators were to fulfil their roles as lifelong learning facilitators and mentors. Utilises the perspective of nurse educators employed in District Health Boards (DHBs) geographically isolated from universities providing post-registration learning. |

Seeks to describe the perceptions and experiences of a sample of nurses working in a critical-care tertiary referral centre in New Zealand, engaged in mentorship of new staff and/or student nurses. Undertakes a descriptive study which identifies four barriers within the critical care environment: the impact that clinical workload has on the provision of mentorship; lack of acknowledgement of the mentorship role; challenge of assessment of new and student nurses; insufficient training and knowledge opportunities for mentors. |

Undertakes a qualitative, phenomenological study to explore the experiences of practitioners delivering asthma services to tamariki Maori and their whanau in primary healthcare. Employs a kaupapa Maori methodology in order to provide a Maori perspective to the research. Uses an equity framework in the analysis and interpretation of the results, to ensure alignment with Maori values and aspirations. Interviews 15 doctors and nurses from Maori, mainstream and Very-Low-Cost-Access providers of asthma services. Presents the results using the Pou Ora framework with four main themes: Hauora, Toi Ora, Whanau Ora, and Mauri Ora. |

Explores the current climate of infection prevention control (IPC) clinical governance in NZ. Audits IPC management plans in NZ District Health Boards (DHB) to evaluate which clinical governance factors facilitate or hinder IPC best practice. Employs a mixed-method, exploratory, qualitative study design to conduct semi-structured interviews with ten IPC nurses across NZ. Seeks to understand their perceptions of the IPC Standard, how it is implemented in their DHB, how the IPC risks are managed, and which barriers hinder IPC engagement. Analyses IPC documentation from all 20 DHBs to examine IPC clinical governance in each DHB. |

Uses an instrumental case study to explore the role of Advanced Choice of Employment (ACE) on the decision to enter the Nurse Entry to Specialised Practice (NESP). Examines the NESP programme in one DHB in which 14 participants who had accepted positions on NESP without specifying the specialty were given semi-structured interviews, as was the NESP coordinator about the employer experience of NESP. Suggests how education providers and DHBs can prepare ACE applicants for the recruitment process. |
