Abstract: Examines those factors associated with access to, and uptake of immunisation services. Conducts semi-structured interviews with primary healthcare nurses and GPs across seven resettlement locations. Proposes strategies to improve age-appropriate vaccination among refugee children after resettlement in NZ, based on five themes from the data: resettlement priorities; knowledge about refugees; learning to use the health system; communication between caregivers and health providers; culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Abstract: Argues that the concept of cultural safety (CS) has been appropriated from an indigenous-led bicutural context to an inclusive cross-cultural framework for working with diverse patient populations. Investigates nurses' understanding of the 'Guidelines for Cultural Safety, the Treaty of Waitangi and Maori Health in Nursing Education and Practice' published in 2011 by the Nursing Council of NZ. Conducts a mixed-methods survey using both closed and open-ended questions to gauge nurses' confidence in applying the guidelines and their view of their relevance. Describes differences between NZ Registered Nurses (RN) and Internationally Qualified Nurses (IQN) in their understanding of CS. Argues that the CS model should be by Maori, for Maori.

Abstract: Investigates the effects of participation in the Intensive Care Unit Randomised Trial Comparing Two Approaches to Oxygen therapy (ICU-ROX) randomised controlled trial, on attitudes and practices in relation to ICU oxygen therapy. Distributes a practitioner attitudes survey to 112 specialist doctors and 153 ICU nurses. Performs both inception and retrospective cohort studies using the Australian and NZ ICU adult patient database before, and post-publication of the ICU-ROX trial results.

Abstract: Investigates intensive care nurses' resilience levels and their association with personal factors and physical activity behaviour; physical work activity behaviour during a 12-hour shift; and clustered physical activity profiles and associations with resilience. Performs a cross-sectional study with intensive care nurses from four units at three hospitals in Auckland. Employs accelerometry to measure participants' physical activity during four days, two at work and two in their own time, and uses the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale to measure resilience levels.

Abstract: Develops a daily measure of job satisfaction in the operating room (OR) setting in the form of a tool called the Morale-o-Meter. Trials and evaluates the tool between 2018-2019, inviting all OR staff to participate using the tool to measure their job satisfaction once each shift. Follows up the trial with an online feedback survey. Proves that overall job satisfaction is positively related to daily job satisfaction and affective commitment, and negatively related to emotional exhaustion. Suggests the Morale-o-Meter has the potential to increase the voice of OR nurses.

Utilises a qualitative approach with the epistemological and methodological basis informed by interpretative phenomenological analysis. Collects data through semi-structured interviews with 10 patients, 6 family members, 5 surgeons and 6 nurses.

Distributes an online survey to Plunket nurses who had completed the training and to a group who had not. Conducts 10 observations and interviews with Plunket nurses and Maori clients. Presents the findings in three areas: Plunket nurse practice, client experience, and the impact of Family Partnership training on Plunket as an organisation.

Abstract: Undertakes to explain the experiences of new graduate registered nurses (NGRN) undertaking a nurse entry-to-practice programme (NETP). Uses focus group data to construct a theory of NGRN experience, utilising constructivist grounded theory method. Interviews NGRNs in the Waikato DHB NETP, which uses a bicultural model. Concludes that NGRNs value culture in assessing patient need. Identifies barriers to valuing patients' culture from short staffing, stress and fear, work pressuress, and lack of insight into the cultural needs of patients from team members.
