Presents Te Kapunga Putohe (the restless hands) model of Maori centred nursing practice. Illustrates how Maori knowledge and nursing knowledge can be incorporated to deliver nursing care that is both culturally appropriate and can improve the nursing experience for Maori clients. |

Undertakes an integrative literature review to identify the generic components of a CNS role, the factors that impact on role development, and to establish what current literature states regarding the impact of the CNS role on patient outcomes. Highlights clinical expert, educator, consultant, researcher and care coordinator as generic components of a CNS role, with relational practice key to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction. |

In this report, the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) releases the findings from its first-ever members' employment survey. The questionnaire, based on the United Kingdom?s Royal College of Nurse?s annual survey (which has been running for 21 years) covered core employment issues: employment agreements, hours, pay, job change, along with demographic details, as well as questions around plans for and perceptions of working life for over 800 NZNO members. |

Reports on one aspect of a larger study, which used qualitative methods to critically explore the social construction of men as nurses. Draws upon literature pertaining to gender and nursing, and interviews with 18 NZ men, to describe the factors underpinning decisions to turn away from 'malestream' occupations and enter a profession stereotyped as 'women's work'. Outlines the five thematic groupings revealed to be significant with respect to the decision-making process. |

Case study research, as a qualitative methodology, attracts some criticism, especially related to rigour, reliability and validity. A New Zealand-based study that explored complex phenomena – flexible learning for postgraduate nurses – provides a practical example of how the case study design can address these criticisms. Through describing the mixed methods used, different sources and methods of data collection, and data analysis, the process of achieving data quality and trustworthiness are highlighted. |
