Abstract |
Examines whether a postgraduate programme for Well Child/Tamariki Ora (WCTO) nurses prepares nurses new to child health to understand primary health care, health promotion, community nursing and nursing theory. Uses on online survey devised by Plunket National Educators to evaluate the (WCTO) strand of the Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Health Care Specialty Nursing curriculum against the delivery of the programme. Assesses student experience and student perceptions of the impact of their learning on their nursing practice. Considers whether it enables nurses to consider the specific populations in their care, or to encourage individuals, families and communities to increase their skills in health-focused daily living. Seeks to ascertain whether the structure of the programme, based on the clinical integration approach, supports nursing practice and academic study. |

Abstract |
Examines the nature of social-political knowing in nursing, or the “where-in” as proposed by Jill White (1995; 2014), whereby the nurse looks beyond therapeutic relationships towards the circumstances that compromise health and wellbeing and contribute to social injustice. Aims to discover how registered nurses (RN) understand, use, and communicate their knowing of contemporary societal and political issues impacting on the health and wellbeing of those they care for. Employs a critical constructivist methodology in interviews woth 26 RNs, and identifies the themes that emerged. |

Abstract |
Argues that nurses undertaking doctoral research have a responsibility to ensure their research engages with international nursing research and is relevant post-doctorally. Distinguishes between the purpose of PhDs and Professional Doctorates. Finds that nursing doctoral graduates are impeded from assuming leading roles in funded research. Attempts to find ways to address this challenge, suggesting that remote attendance at conferences and Internet communication with nurse researchers overseas encourages an international perspective on nursing topics. Backgrounds the establishment of an international nursing research community between Oxford Brookes University in the UK and Victoria University of Wellington in NZ. |

Abstract |
Asserts that nursing needs to think critically about High-fidelity simulation (HFS) use, and its dominance, in the educational preparation of nurses. Draws on the tenets of postmodernism and Foucauldian discourse analysis methodology to question the discourses and discursive practices that influence the use of HFS as an approach to intentional and unintentional teaching and learning in pre-registration nursing education in NZ. Explores how this shapes nursing students' subjectivity and, ultimately, nursing practice. |
