Abstract |
Explains the need for nurse-led Patient-at-Risk-Teams(PART) to prevent unnecessary ICU admissions. Investigates which nurse allocation policy between PART and ICU would result in the best outcomes for patients and hospitals. Provides econometric models to estimate the impact of critical care nurses on hospital length of stay. Proposes queueing and simulation models to obtain the optimal nurse allocation policy for minimising the ICU mortality rate. Validates proposed models at Middlemore Hospital from 2015 to 2016. Estimates the financial and mortality impact of allocating another nurse to PART per shift. |

Abstract |
Maintains that the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role has the potential to achieve more equitable outcomes for rural populations, particularly for older adults in their transition from hospital to the rural setting. Examines how NPs can reduce readmissions, from a thematic analysis of the literature using a realist synthesis approach, focusing on the Thames Coromandel rural community. Derives three themes from the analysis: self-efficacy, holistic care, and care grounded in nursing philosophy. |

Abstract |
Examines the nature of social-political knowing in nursing, or the “where-in” as proposed by Jill White (1995; 2014), whereby the nurse looks beyond therapeutic relationships towards the circumstances that compromise health and wellbeing and contribute to social injustice. Aims to discover how registered nurses (RN) understand, use, and communicate their knowing of contemporary societal and political issues impacting on the health and wellbeing of those they care for. Employs a critical constructivist methodology in interviews woth 26 RNs, and identifies the themes that emerged. |
