Uses a focus group to explore RNS responses and to identify the following themes related to safety in isolated environments: community, pressure to perform, and luck versus planning for safety. Suggests recommendations for future practice. |

Describes an exploratory study of Registered Nurses (RNs) within a local District Health Board which pursued the question of 'if' and 'how' professional practice frameworks assisted nurses in their individual professional practice, specifically self-assessment and performance appraisal. Utilises a qualitative descriptive framework to explore the experiences of RNs in inpatient settings, via questionnaire. Identifies 8 themes related to self-assessment, performance appraisal, and professional practice. |

Backgrounds the primary health care initiative, the Transitional Care Nursing service, which aims to facilitate integrated care between primary, secondary and community health care services. Explores whether support in the form of the Transitional Care Nursing service influences the experience of patients who receive assistance during the transition between hospital and home. Conducts qualitative, semi-structured interviews with 12 patients whose responses are thematically analysed. Highlights the characteristics of care offered by Transitional Care nurses that describe the person-centred care patients received. |

Argues that the Fundamentals of Care (FOC) conceptual framework is essential for nursing schools to teach and on which to assess nursing students for clinical competency. Provides a national overview of undergraduate pre-registration nursing curricula in NZ, exploring what and how schools of nursing teach and assess FoC. Distributes a cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire to course coordinators between 2019 and 2020, revealing variations in how FOC is taught and the lack of standardisation in course design. Highlights the opportunity for the Nursing Council to develop a national, evidenced-based FOC educational strategy. |

Examines whether the Family Partnership model could be considered a model for cultural responsiveness while simultaneously providing a platform for more accurate assessment of the cultural competence of Plunket nurse practice. Determines the relationship between Family Partnership training for Plunket nurses and Maori child health outcomes. Distributes an online survey to Plunket nurses who had completed the training and to a group who had not. Conducts 10 observations and interviews with Plunket nurses and Maori clients. Presents the findings in three areas: Plunket nurse practice, client experience, and the impact of Family Partnership training on Plunket as an organisation. |
